Another crazy New York City crowd, the teaser promo of a new member of the Impact Roster (possibly female star Jessicka Havoc) and a slew of great matches made Destination X 2014 an indication that Impact Wrestling, even in the face of losing their TV contract with Spike, isn’t about to take anything laying down.
Matches:
TNA Tag Team Champions Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards vs. Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy: A great opening match that proves Matt and Jeff still have plenty of fire together as a tag team. They even nearly won the match after a Matt Side Effect and a Jeff Swanton, but the Wolves were resilient. Later in the match both Hardys got the Wolves in the Ice Pick, but again, the Wolves managed to escape. More a testament to the Hardy’s ability as a tag team than anything else, the reformed tag team went through all of their moves. It was like a video game at times. The Wolves hit their signature maneuvers too, including the Double Stomp and Catapault Side Kick, but the Hardy’s wouldn’t go down either. However, the Powerbomb/Backstabber combination was too nasty to kick out of and allowed the Wolves to put down Matt for the win.
X-Division Qualifier: Zema Ion vs. Manik vs. Low Ki: All three competitors hit trademark moves, but Low Ki got the win with the Ki Crusher in another awesome match from the former X-Division and Tag Team Champion.
X-Division Qualifier: Crazy Steve vs. Sanada vs. Brian Cage: Crazy Steve proved just that and Cage exhibited a ton of strength, but the revamped Sanada got the win with his Tiger Suplex on Steve, who was already weakened after Cage hit a nasty Death Valley Driver variation.
X-Division Qualifier: Samoa Joe vs. Homicide vs. Tigre Uno: Homicide and Uno hit their share of signature moves, but Joe won with a massive Muscle Buster on Homicide to advance in the tournament.
TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Austin Aries: Lashley took everything Aries had from multiple Discus Elbows to the Brainbuster. Capitalizing when Aries missed a Suicide Dive on the outside, Lashley put the pieces together back in the ring with a massive Spear to reclaim his title.
