Sure, there were only four matches this week, but Dixie Carter went through a table and Samoa Joe is the new X-Division Champion.
Mission accomplished.
With enough storyline to build from moving forward and those four solid matches, it almost felt like a pay per view.
Simply put, the energy from the New York City crowd made the show even better. It’s so infectious that you have to wonder why the company would ever want to go back to Orlando.
Matches:
Monster’s Ball: Bram vs. Abyss: A bloodbath. Bram went through tacks after an Abyss Chokeslam, but Bram got the last laugh after the Spear through the Barbed Wire Table and then the shot with Janice in the gut.
Jessie Godderz, Zema Ion and Robbie E. vs. Samuel Shaw, Mr. Anderson and Gunner: The Bromans used quick tags to dominate while Anderson refused to tag in Shaw. Once Shaw got in the match for himself, he took out everybody, but Anderson, still the legal man, got Rolled Up for the loss. Shaw was forced to watch the pinball as he got his legs grabbed by one of the Bromans.
Hardcore War: Ethan Carter III, Rhyno, Ryklon and Snitsky vs. Bully Ray, Devon, Tommy Dreamer and Al Snow: Team Dixie was in control, as they used weapons and strikes to keep Dreamer and 3D on the ground. Once Al Snow joined the match, things evened up and after Dreamer DDTed ECIII and the foursome took out Rockstar Spud. Snow then hit a Moonsault on the outside and took out Snitsky and Ryklon. With the action back in the ring, Team 3D quickly took out Rhino with the 3D for the win.
Triple Threat Match or X-Division Title: Sanada vs. Low Ki vs. Samoa Joe: A fast and frenetic match that matched the finesse of Sanada with the striking ability of Low Ki and the power of Joe. All three competitors traded offense for minutes before things started to get extra spicy. The near-falls, counters and finisher reversals were all awesome. With Low Ki out of the ring, Joe latched on the Rear-Naked Choke following a float-over pin attempt and Sanada tapped out before Low Ki could break up the submission.
