Alien vs. Predator: Fire and Stone #1 Preview: Another Miss?

Two of the most famous sci-fi franchises ever are “Alien” and “Predator.” For almost two decades these two franchises have seen plenty of crossovers with varying degrees of success. The newest form is “Alien vs. Predator: Fire and Stone,” written by Christopher Sebela with art by Ariel Olivetti. The preview for this newest iteration makes it look like another miss.

The story is about the crew of the Perses trying to leave LV-223. The problem is they get overrun by both Predators and Xenomorphs.

The preview itself does not make this clear except we see the ship getting slaughtered by Predators and Xenomorphs. There is also a creature who thought he was becoming human and is now after a crew member named Francis. It’s not really clear and it reads more like random, out of order scenes that are there to show the action scenes.

This can be problematic. Yes, action scenes are important to this genre, but if the story is non-existent or terrible the final product will suffer. The idea of somebody wreaking havoc among his fellow man can be exciting if executed properly. Since this is an “AVP” story, this should be as memorable as the first two movies.

The art is, sadly, lackluster. The humans look atrocious. They look more like what an alien would imagine what a human looks like. The Predators and Xenomorphs, on the other hand, are much better drawn and more appealing to the eye.

The preview for “Alien VS Predator: Fire and Stone #1” does not make it look like a comic worth reading. The story seems all over the place and the art is subpar. This comic has to pull out all the stops in order to elevate from lame to at least mediocre.
