While the tease for No Surrender was evident as every single title match was mentioned and built up, this week’s Impact was just a solid show. Six quality matches that entertained the crowd, combined with a nice balance of young faces and established stars paved the way for a formula that works well for TNA.
With feuds up and down the card, plenty of new and returning faces and another solid card for No Surrender, there’s no reason to think that Impact Wrestling is about to lose any of its steam.
Matches:
Chris Melendez vs. Zema Ion: Melendez got the win with the Samoan Drop, but the pace of the match and Melendez’s mobility left much to be desired. While his story is an inspiring one, the chances of him being more than a patriotic gimmick are slim to none.
Bobby Roode, X-Division Champion Samoa Joe and Eric Young vs. TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley, MVP and Kenny King: All six competitors had opportunities to deliver offense, even if Young sold a bit more than anyone else. After LAshley dominated most of the match, MVP tagged in and had Roode on the ropes. But just when MVP went for the Drive-By, Roode countered into the Roode Bomb for the win.
The BroMans, Jessie Godderz and Robbie E. and Velvet Sky w/Angelina Love vs. The Menagerie, Mike Knox, Rebel and Crazy Steve w/The Freak: This was a much more enjoyable match than originally expected. Between Steve’s athleticism, Knox’s power and Rebel’s ability in the ring, The Menagerie was super solid. But after interference from Love, Sky was able to win with a Rollup and a handful of Rebel’s tights. Expect this feud to continue. It would be silly to stop it at this point.
Street Fight: Ethan Carter III vs. Rhino: Another tough match between these two that ended after ECIII hit the One-Percenter on a chair. If anything this match continues to prove Carter’s versatility and Rhino’s ability to put over younger stars in the making.
James Storm and Sanada vs. Austin Aries and Tajiri: A gritty match with plenty of stiff kicks as Sanada and Tajiri works wonderfully together. The crowd cheered you still got it to Tajiri at multiple points in the marriage and for good reason. But after Storm spit beer in Tajri’s face, Sanada scored a win with the Super Kick on a seated Tajiri.
Table Match: Tag Team Challenge: Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards vs. Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy vs. Devon and Bully Ray: Another awesome tag match that saw every team score their share of offensive maneuvers and high spots. However, it wasn’t until Matt Hardy delivered the Twist of Fate on Edwards and Jeff hit the Swanton on the outside through a table on Edwards that the Hardy Boys were able to score the win.
