With a new TNA World Heavyweight Champion in Bobby Roode and what appears to be friction among the TNA Tag Team Champion combination of Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards, there seems to be a tide of change once again looming over Impact Wrestling.
Will it be enough to get this company a new TV deal or even better, to keep them pertinent?
While the in-ring action was solid, the show seems to be missing a few more intangibles. Still relying on older stars the likes of Tommy Dreamer, Devon and The Hardy Boys to put over their younger talent, TNA is still in flux and it appears that until fresh writing team gets involved, they’ll stay that way.
Matches:
Tag Team Tournament Semi-Final: MVP and Kenny King vs. Low Ki and Samoa Joe: While MVP and King are in the same faction, Joe and Ki just work very well together. Between Ki’s athleticism and Joe’s power, it’s hard not to take them seriously. After Ki took care of MVP on the outside, the constant annoying double-team tactics by King and MVP were nullified, allowing Joe to wrap up King in the Kokina Clutch for the win.
Angelina Love and Velvet Sky vs. vs. Madison Rayne and Taryn Terrell: Rayne refused to tag in for Terrell, which allowed Love and Sky to have their way with her. Although she fought back and nearly won following a Cross Body from the top rope, it wasn’t enough to get her the win. Still not tagging in, Rayne took out the Beautiful People and then the Package Buster on Terrell before the Beautiful People made the combined pin.
Tag Team Tournament Semi-Final: Ethan Carter III and Tyrus vs. Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy: EC3 was in control for a bit, but Matt was able to hold his own until Jeff hot a bevy of signature holds to get the fans involved. After the Twist of Fate on EC3, Tyrus tagged himself in, but after he missed a top rope Splash, both Hardy’s got the Twist of Fate before Jeff hit the Swanton for the win.
Eddie Edwards w/ Davey Richards vs. James Storm w/Manik and Sanada: Edwards was strong, but interference from Manik and Sanada and indifference from his tag partner, allowed Storm to win with the Last Call Super Kick.
TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley vs, Bobby Roode w/Kurt Angle as Special Guest Referee: A weird match that saw Lashley take out Roode with the title and hit both Angle and other referee Brian Hebner. Once a dominant champion, Lashley became a standard heel. Although there was drama as Lashley went for the Dominator at one point and there were plenty of near-falls, this wasn’t the huge war it could have been. After a counter of the RoodeBomb from Lashley, Roode was about to sit across Lashley’s chest, stacking him into a pinning combination to win the title.
