Review Fix chats with “Twisted Dark†creator and writer Neil Gibson, who discusses the newest volume of his heralded independent comic book series and what makes it different from his previous work. Gibson also discusses his attempts at success in the United States Comic Book scene, as well as his goals for the future.
Review Fix: How is this volume different?
Neil Gibson: Unlike volume 2, where I was trying to cater to a wide segment of the population, I decided to make stories that I would like to read. If others like them too then it’s a bonus! Also in this volume all the stories start to tie together which people really seem to like.
Review Fix: Do you think the current successes of the first two volumes have played a huge role in the advancement of this volume? Meaning, do you feel pressured to repeat with the older formula or have you stretched the vision for the series Explain.
Gibson: Hmm. Tough question. Some people always want me to go darker and some always want me to go lighter. I think you are in danger if you bend too much to fan requests. Ultimately everyone’s lives intertwine in Twisted Dark and I need to balance the individual vignettes with the overarching story for the whole series. So while I don;t feel any pressure to repeat a formula, I foo feel pressure to get on with the main story and not tell too many side stories.
Review Fix: The series has been a big success digitally in the UK. How does that feel to be recognized in your homeland?
Gibson: Great. I love comics and our company mission it to get more people reading comics. In the UK they are often looked down upon as childish and I really want more people to give the medium a shot because there is fantastic content out there to suit everyone’s  tastes.
Review Fix: How important is it to be successful in the United States?
Gibson: The US is the home of comics. You have to be successful in the US if you want to have a serious impact in comics.
Review Fix: Why should someone read Vol. 3?
Gibson: If they like the Twilight Zone, Tales of the unexpected or just creepy tales that make you think, then Volume 3 is something I am pretty confident you will enjoy. It is our biggest seller on Amazon.
Review Fix: Who do you think will enjoy it the most?
Gibson: Sick, seriously disturbed people. No, jokes aside, it really is for people who like thought provoking stories.
Review Fix: Can they just jump in? Or do you think it’s better to read the other volumes first?
Gibson: The great thing is that people can just jump in, but personally I am a bit OCD and I like to start a series with volume one.
