Four solid matches and new NXT Tag Team Champions set the scene for a solid episode of NXT this week that also saw the contract signing for the NXT Championship match between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.
With enough storyline development and plenty of in-ring action, NXT continues to make it hard to top in terms of what it can get done in just an hour. The writers of RAW should take closer notice.
Matches:
NXT Tag Team Champions Sin Cara and Kalisto vs. Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy: Cara and Kalisto were in control throughout the match and were inches from a win until a smart blind tag from Blake allowed him to pin Kalisto after he hit the Ultimo Dragon Flipping Reverse DDT on Murphy, crowning new NXT Tag Team Champions.
#1 Contender’s Tournament: Adrian Neville vs. Tyson Kidd: Neville was his usual athletic self, but the smarter Kidd nearly won via count-out after a game of cat and mouse. A solid back and forth encounter, Kidd nearly won with the Three Handled Credenza, but Neville kicked out and fought back, nearly winning with a beautiful High-End Seated-Powerbomb. Although Kidd soon got Neville in the Sharpshooter, Neville escaped and eventually got the win with the Red Arrow.
NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair and Bayley vs. Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch: Bayley did most of the selling as Lynch and Banks were the more organized team. Once Flair got the hot tag, the momentum changed, but Banks hit the Bankrupt Neckbreaker, while Bayley inadvertently hit Flair to break the match apart as Flair and Bayley began to attack one another to get the match thrown out.
#1 Contender’s Tournament: Baron Corbin vs. Bull Dempsey: Corbin hit more strikes in this match than he has in his entire NXT career thus far and quickly finished off Dempsey with the End of Days for the win.
