Review Fix chats with country music legend and radio host Jim Ed Brown, who discusses his new album, “In Style Again,†his first solo album in over 30 years. In addition to breaking down the album, Brown discusses his legacy as a performer and how he’d like his work to be remembered by fans.
Review Fix: You’ve been through a lot in the past few years physically. Considering that, how did you find the inspiration to record another album?
Jim Ed Brown: As a singer, inspiration isn’t difficult to find. Â So when Plowboy Records called and my friend Don Cusic, I jumped at the chance to record again.
Review Fix: Why do you think it took you 30 years to record another solo album?
Brown: That is a good question and I don’t have an answer. Â I suppose if I did, it wouldn’t have taken so long.
Review Fix: Do you think your radio show and being immersed in music has been a help or a hinderance to your music career?
Brown: I think it has helped me a great deal. Â Being a host has been a large part of my career over the years.
Review Fix: What do you think you have left to prove musically?
Brown: I have never thought I had anything to prove. Â I’m a singer and I love singing.
Review Fix: What do you think makes this album special?
Brown: The songs and the special guests who came in to record with me. Â I’m grateful for the musicians who played on this album, my producer, the guests — all of this combined makes this record special to me.
Review Fix: Why do you think country music is still so important in America?
Brown: It is America’s music. Â It is the heart and soul of the people who work hard everyday to take care of their families.
Review Fix: What song on the album is most indicative of your creative vision for this record?
Brown: “When The Sun Says Hello To The Mountain”
Review Fix: What song do you think has the best story behind it, why?
Brown: I think again it is “When The Sun Says Hello To The Mountain” because I found this song in the 60s and have held onto it wanting to record it and finally the opportunity presented itself and the timing was right.
Review Fix: How do you want this album to ultimately be remembered?
Brown: I just hope it’s remembered with favor.
Review Fix: What’s next for you?
Brown: I’ve started thinking about my next album already.  Hopefully I will start working on it soon.
