Review Fix chats with Lost in Society Frontman Zach Moyle and River Jumpers lead singer Nicolas Davis, who discuss both bands’ new combined six-song LP on Panic State Records. Breaking down their favorite tracks on the LP, as well as their future, the two nifty young bands give us their take on this unique project.
Review Fix: This is a unique project. How did it come together?
Zach Moyle: We’ve been in touch with Panic State for a while now and kind of just handed them the reigns on sorting out a release. It’s almost been the case of we just handed complete trust to the Panic State guys and they couldn’t have done a better job.
Review Fix: What song on this LP do you think is most indicative of each band’s sound?
Nicholas Davis: I think for us it’s All Our Histories. It fuses everything we go for in terms of style and it’s our latest recording to date. We released it as a stand alone track to accompany our first video which we did ahead of our Groezrock debut in 2014. We won a competition hosted by Macbeth to play the Macbeth stage and had the most rad weekend ever.
Review Fix: What song on each side do you think has the best story behind it?
Davis: I think for River Jumpers and for me as the writer it’s probably Diamonds. I was going through a rough time and when I wrote this I used the girl ‘the diamond in the rough’ as a metaphor for a better time when things seemed easier and was trying through the lyrics to figure out how to get back there and see ‘her’ again. It was like everyone else was at that point and kind of ‘she’ was always there but not for me….at the time. I’m way happier now but it was kind of a piece about self-expression and acceptance.
Review Fix: How are you these groups different?
Nicholas Davis: I think LIS have the raw edge. It makes for a really nice contrast on the LP. We love em. We all come from a misspent youth playing in bands and listening to punk. I think LIS are defo working hard and maintaining integrity doing their own thing. It’s jub as we might say in England.
Review Fix: What have you learned about yourselves as musicians through this project?
Moyle: We are always learning and striving to better ourselves. I think we have learnt to trust more as Panic State have done a sterling job with this and we have pretty much no input which was kind of how we wanted it to roll.
Review Fix: How do you want this album to be remembered?
Davis: As a good looking one with a few nice tracks from a killer label.
Review Fix: Bottom Line- Why should someone pick this up?
Davis: Because it’s jub and everyone should support Panic State.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Moyle: We are releasing our new materiel on 7inch with FXD records and touring a lot in 2015. We hope to come state side perhaps too either this year or next. Maybe sharing the stage with LIS
