Review Fix Exclusive: Stone Wallace Talks Creative Process, Meghan Trainor and More

Review Fix chats with rapper Stone Wallace, who discusses his new Meghan Trainor remix, as well as his creative influences. A Steel City native, the Pittsburgh boy breaks down his hopes for the future and the music that he grew up listening to.

Review Fix: What inspires you to perform?

Stone Wallace: The energy. I love feeling the energy that the crowd gives off. Performing is probably my favorite aspect of being an artist.

Review Fix: What made you do a mix on a Meghan Trainor track?

Wallace: I decided to remix this track to show i’m not afraid to step outside of my comfort zone. Plus I wanted to show everyone I’m ready to take it to the next level and show people that it’s not far-fetched to hear Stone Wallace on a radio-ready record.

Review Fix: Is there another popular track that you’d like to put your stamp on?

Wallace: I think if you check StoneWallaceMusic.com you’d be very surprised on how many popular tracks we were able to remix in the last few weeks, especially releasing 2 new tracks a week but something I haven’t had a chance to remix that I always wanted to do was Kayne West’s “Drive Slow” Off his second album.

Review Fix: Make makes you different from other artists?

Wallace: https://reviewfix.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/unnamed27.jpgI’m different because I’m me. I’m Stone Wallace. I do what i want and make it cool. I bring a certain type of feel to the industry thats raw and untouched. I’m a true D.I.Y artist. I mean Who else is releasing as much content as me? I’m competing with Bigger artist and bigger companies that pour money into a product that has no upside. I’m proof that hard work pays off and you don’t need a million views or radio records to make it in the game anymore
.

Review Fix: What did you grow up listening to? How has it affected your creativity?

Wallace: I grew up listening to a lot of everything but to be honest music didn’t start being influential to me until i moved to Pittsburgh when i was 12. Growing up in the city, there were a lot of opinions and everyone was listening to different things at the time. You had Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie, Dmx and i know Pittsburgh isn’t down south but a lot of my influences and what i was into at the time was down south music like No-Limit and Cash Money. I mean even 3-6 Mafia was on heavy rotation for me, but lyrically at the time DMX was doing things I never heard and he really changed the way I listened to songs and lyrics in general.

Review Fix: Where do you expect to be in a few years?

Wallace: In a few years i’m going to be on tour and plan to be a top engineer in the game. I want some of the bigger names in the game to want that Stone Wallace sound.

Review Fix: What do you do when you’re not performing?

Wallace: When I’m not performing I’m handling all aspects of what I need to be doing as an independent artist. Answering Interviews, Sending emails, Responding to fans on all my networks and studying music. I’m writing, recording and mixing my own music at the moment so there’s a lot to be done, but I’m up for the challenge. It’s exciting.

Review Fix: Tell us about a song of yours that you feel connects the most to your audience. What is it about. How was it written?

Wallace: I have a song called “Turn Around” that will be dropping on my new album “Power of Position”. It hasn’t been released yet but this song really paints a very vivid picture about my life. It talks about me losing my best friend to drugs and i get very personal on the last verse where i speak to my father that abandon me and my mother when i was very young. I know it may not connect to everyone but this is one of those songs that if it connects to only 5 people it will really hit home for them and get them through some tough times. I’m trying to change lives with this one.

Review Fix: What is your creative process like?

Wallace: I like to sit down and think about how the beat makes me feel. Once i have identified the emotion it gives me, i can better understand what its trying to tell me. I been focusing more on songs for “Power Of Position” so choruses have been very important to me because I feel a great chorus really tightens up the song. I use to be all over the place and write verses and try to make a hook that fit, but now i’m trying to get the chorus down and write to a subject that best suits the purpose and subject of my song.

Review Fix: How do you want to affect your audience?

Wallace: My main message is progress and I want to be a good example. I want people to see that with hard work and dedication that this is very possible. I know its cliche and thats fine because I really can’t describe a better way to put it. If you have any doubt’s know i have them to but just work through it and grow. Take small steps because one day you’re going to look back and see how far you came and i want to be apart of that.
