With just one title match, no title changes and pure grudge matches filling the card, the level of “impact†Lockdown could have had, even if it was an amazing show, was minimal. Regardless, it was a solid night of wrestling with several feuds ended and performers the likes of Awesome Kong and Bobby Roode now have no obstacles in the way of their goals for singles gold, Lockdown was more of a building for the future event, rather than one that’ll be remembered for years to come.
Matches:
TNA Tag Team Champions Abyss and James Storm w/ Manik, The Great Sanada and Khoya vs. Matt and Jeff Hardy: Storm and Abyss worked extremely well, using strikes and Double-Team maneuvers to get an early advantage, highlighted by an Abyss Catapult into a Storm DDT. The Hardy’s fought back with the Twist of Hate and Fate on Abyss and Storm, but they couldn’t put the champions away. Matt put the exclamation point on Storm with a top rope Twist of Fate, but Khoya pulled Matt out of the ring and left Jeff by himself. Jeff then hit the Twist of fate on Abyss and then went for the Senton, but was sprayed with the Mist by Sanada, allowing Storm to hit The Last Call for the win. After the match, Khoya put Matt through a table with the Sky High. The Revolution then attempted to put Jeff through a table, but the “Charismatic Enigma†was a step ahead- until the numbers game came into effect again. Stopping Hardy at the top of cage, Storm nailed Hardy with the Cow Bell and sent him crashing down, on the ring steps.
Havoc vs. Awesome Kong: A tough back and forth that saw the two trades strikes and even Chokeslams. Kong got the advantage with a top Rope Powerbomb and finished off Havoc with the Second Rope Splash.
Eric Young vs. Bobby Roode: Young was in control early on and with Roode down, he gestured to the back, which brought out MVP with a chair. Young however was unable to nail Roode with the foreign object and then the two performers countered each others finishers before Roode bloodied Young by catapulting him into the Steel cage. After a Roode Spinebuster, Young fought back with his Elbow Drop, but was unable to get the win. Young then planted the steel chair across the neck of Roode and went for the move again, but “The It Factor†fought back with the chair and then hit the Roode Bomb on the chair for the win.
Mandrews and Rockstar Spud vs. Tyrus w/Ethan Carter III: Tyrus’ strength was too much, even for the speedier Mandrews and Spud, who tried their hardest to keep Tyrus down, but couldn’t. It wasn’t until Spud countered a Powerbomb and climbed to the top of the Cage and hit the Somersault Leg Drop that the smaller British duo had a fighting chance. Right after however, Carter took Mandrews out of the match, clipping his ankles on the ring steps and then slammed the Steel Cage door on Spud, allowing Tyrus to hit the Spike for the win. After the match, Carter III tried to shave Spud’s head, but Jeremy Borash cut the cord to the buzzer.
MVP, Kenny King, Low Ki and Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle, Gunner and Austin Aries: Gunner was tough as hell in the early going, using weapons and strikes, but King and Ki worked on his injured arm until Aries came in and went on a tear. The momentum swung back in the BDC’s direction once Samoa Joe got into the match, as he took out Aries and Gunner with ease, thanks to a pair of trash can lids. Angle’s arrival in match signaled another momentum shift, as the Olympic hero nailed Joe with a German Suplex and took out King with a Snap Suplex and strikes. Things got heated when Low Ki took out Aries with a nasty Double Stomp, but Gunner wasted no time nailing Joe with a hockey stick. Armed with a kendo stick, MVP took out Aries and Gunner, but was Suplexed by Angle. The numbers game of the BDC then once again came into play as the four heels took advantage. Angle made sure his team stayed in the match however, using a trash can lid to take out all four competitors for a spell. Joe used the kendo stick again to take out Team Angle however, while Ki continued his vicious attacks.
It was at that point when Bobby Lashley got involved, running into the ring and beating the BDC. However, the advantage didn’t last long. With all the competitors in the ring, the match turned into a frenzy of signature and finishing moves. With Aries locking in the Last Chancery, Angle the Ankle Lock and Gunner the Torture Rack, Lashley was able to hit MVP with the Spear for the win.
