It’s pretty well understood that computer games are one of the key features of our entertainment and fueled culture. They’re longer, more interactive, and arguably more enjoyable than television shows and movies, and often cost a heck of a lot less than their erstwhile brethren. Put simply; games rule. However between two of the most popular forms of gaming out there – console gaming and online gaming – which is better? Which will represent the mainstream future of the gaming industry?
 Games:
Part of the reason a person commits to a certain mode of gaming is because it offers a certain type, number or calibre of games that contending systems simply can’t offer. Consoles certainly have the edge in this category; with hundreds of games being released every year for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 – many of which are big-budget, triple-A releases – console gamers certainly have a fair crop of titles to enjoy.
However for the types of games that aren’t regularly released for consoles; online casino games in particular; players do have a good reason to flock to their PCs and mobile devices. Casino gaming fans can play table games at red flush online casino, alongside many other online game providers, something that console fans simply don’t have access to. One wonders though, with the casino gaming industry experiencing huge growth of recent, perhaps console developers will branch out into this form of gaming in the future?
 Graphics:
PCs have been shown in recent years to be on the rise amongst gamers, especially when it comes to providing players with the crispest, most high-definition visuals available. PCs can be continually modified, their hardware updated when the crop of games being developed outclasses hardware capabilities. Consoles simply don’t have this functionality, and despite developers’ ability to eke out more possibilities from consoles as the years go by (compare the Xbox 360 launch games to the last titles released for the system and you’ll understand), manufacturers will always have to release another console later down the line.
Players
Whilst many console games do have online functionality, PC and mobile online multiplayer games do currently have one up on the consoles in terms on player numbers. A PC shooting game with 64Â players, gunning it out against one another, is far more exciting and frantic than a sixteen-player console shooter’s multiplayer mode, and RPGs that allow thousands of players to game together have only so far been created for PCs. With the current, ‘next generation’ consoles though, this gap of functionality might be closed; upcoming console titles such as Planetside and No Man’s Sky will feature thousands, perhaps millions, of players sharing gaming worlds.
So which is the winner; consoles or online games? Well, with both having their pros and cons the state of affairs is very much a stalemate, one’s choice being very much informed by the types of games one wishes to play. What’s more likely than an outright ‘win’ of one over the other, however, is a parity emerging between the two modes of play – perhaps we’ll see Xbox One Vs PC gamer matches being held in the near future.
