Hell’s Kitchen Season Coverage: Quality Control

It’s buckets of cheese and raw garnish in a new episode of “Hell’s Kitchen.” Even legendary rocker Dave Mustaine finds humor in these chefs lack of quality control.

This episode started with Ramsay going into teacher mode. He asked the chefs to give him one ingredient that is vital to cooking. Sarah had a lapse in judgment when she said pepper after Monique already said it. The important ingredient Ramsay had in mind for this episode was cheese. He ran this point home by having models come out carrying cheeses from different countries.

He also took out a wheel with different cheese dishes. He asked each chef who they would like to go up against on the opposite team and then spin the wheel to get their dish. The results were Nick and Monique (grilled cheese,) Meghan and Milly (enchiladas,) Brendan and Alison (croquettes,) Randy and Sarah (lasagna,) Adam and Christine (cordon bleu,) Michelle and Josh (manicotti,) and Bret and T (calzone.)

One low point is Monique’s grilled cheese was more bread than anything else. It was also a very basic grilled cheese. Something Ramsay is never looking for in “Hell’s Kitchen.” It was nothing but everyone getting a point after Meghan got the point for her enchilada until the final dish (calzone.) Bret, being an Italian, thought he had it won. T got the point and win due to Bret’s calzone dough being raw. This isn’t the first time someone’s overconfidence landed them a loss in “Hell’s Kitchen.” It seems to be a running them on this show.

Once again, the Red won a challenge. Like the last time, they were out on the ocean this time riding jet skis.

The real drama happened back in “Hell’s Kitchen.” Both Bret and Milly broke down in tears because of their performance in the challenge. So far we’ve seen Bret as an angry pit bull and now as an emotional wreck. It didn’t help that their punishment was to cut and grate a giant wheel of parmesan cheese. They didn’t just cut, they butchered the thing. It took four spikes and the entire Blue team to split the wheel in half.

At dinner service, the audience had a feeling of déjà vu.

In the Blue, even with Josh’s advice, Adam made a risotto that got stuck to the pan. Ramsay even said it was “like a *bleep* clock! What am I supposed to do, hang it on the wall?” At entrees Bret sent up soggy, overcooked salmon. If there’s one thing “Hell’s Kitchen” chefs have shown is that they are bad at bath. Brendan showed this by bringing up one lamb instead of two. He even overcooked the second one. They finished service. Dave Mustaine from “Megadeth’ had nothing but positive to say about his experience to the cameras.

In the Red Monique once again showed her lack of cooking prowess. Her spinach was not just cold, it was underseasoned. Her ineptitude with garnish continued when she brought up eggplant that was still raw. Garnish is considered one of the easiest stations in the kitchen, and Monique can’t even get that right. Ramsay started to lose it when he got an undercooked risotto and an undercooked salmon. Not even his little pep talk in the pantry helped this team from making one last mistake (undercooked salmon) and getting them thrown out again.

It’s pretty sad when Ramsay so mad at you that he doesn’t even want to look at you. That was the case with the Red tea, He sent Andi to tell them to pick two people for elimination. They chose Monique and Sarah. Monique was eliminated.

This Red team just can’t win a dinner service. They’re adept at daily challenges, but they can’t for the life of them get dinner service right. Monique didn’t have long to last in this competition anyway. Bret, though not a favorite to win, is becoming a character that you want to see succeed.
