Hell’s Kitchen Recap: Bye Randy

The Nanny herself was on this episode of “Hell’s Kitchen” for a charitable dinner. The sad news is that these chefs were not charitable.

Once again this season, the chefs were told to meet Ramsay outside. This time it was a “Hell’s Kitchen” staple: The blind taste test. The catch was, just like last season, there were dunk tanks. One chef from each team was put in a dunk tank and if their teammate got three wrong they got dunked. Apparently people loved this idea so much that they did it again. They were right; this stuff is hilarious.

The only ones to get dunked were Randy (Nick only got one) Nick (Randy only got one. Payback, much?) The score was tied 9-9 when it came to the tiebreaker. Josh and Milly (both getting perfect scores) were up. Meghan and Alison were in the tanks (both got dunked.) Josh did eventually win it for the Red.

The Red’s reward was caviar tasting at “Petrossian” and a shopping spree at “Kitson.” Two extremely high-end places as a reward are pretty awesome.

The Blue, on the other hand, had a long day. They had to rearrange the dining room for two twelve tops for that night’s special dinner service. They also had to chop fruit for sangria. Randy took the lose pretty badly and blamed it on himself. Milly, being nice, told him everyone got things wrong.

The dinner service was another staple: two charities. The charities were Fran Drescher’s “Cancer Schmancer” (yes, she was there and thank god she did not laugh once) and the other was “Step Up Women’s Network.” As usual, there were some mess ups.

The first course (lobster risotto) had Randy making them in four different pans. Ramsay told him they all had to taste the same and combine them. He also has 16 plates instead of 12. He did say 12, but somehow his team put up 16. How he did not count the plates is a mystery.

The second course (tuna nicoise) Josh overcooked every tuna. Not just a few, all of them. He had to ask the Blue Team for more tuna. That’s a pretty major mistake and usually something Ramsay would eliminate a chef on the spot for. Nick used a filthy rag to clean plates and was called out on it.

The third course (pan seared salmon) both kitchens had trouble with the doneness of the salmon. Both teams finished without any further hitches.

The Fourth course (NY Strip) went off without a hitch.

The major problem came after dinner service. Randy was still fuming over how his team gave him 16 plates. Not to mention T’s and Michelle’s feud started up again. One of these episodes those two will come to blows, destroying the balance of drama this season had.

The Red Team lost and had to pick two chefs for elimination. They chose Josh and Michelle. In a surprise twist, Ramsay eliminated Randy.

Randy being eliminated instead of Josh makes no sense. Yes, Randy miscounted the plates, but Josh overcooked all of the food he was responsible for. Sometimes the way Ramsay thinks is a mystery. This was the first eliminated that will infuriate some people.
