Review Fix chats with actor David Deblinger, who discusses his role in John Gould Rubin’s “A Queen For a Day,†which is set to open on May 3 at the Theatre at St. Clements in New York City. Breaking down his initial attraction to the production and what it was like to share the stage with Vincent Pastore and David Proval, Dubliner gives us an inside look at the star-studded production.
Review Fix: What originally attracted you to this production?
David Deblinger: The director, my longtime friend and colleague, John Gould Rubin
Review Fix: What’s your character like?
Deblinger: My character is in over his head… Â A nice Jewish boy who has gotten “into bed,” with some dangerous folks, who live in a very different world than he’s accustomed to.
Review Fix: How did you prepare for this role?
Deblinger: I have been doing readings of this play for the past two years. During rehearsals I was put in touch with a lawyer friend of the playwright, Michael Ricigliano, who has conducted hundreds of proffer agreements with members of the mob. It was incredible to sit and talk with him.
Review Fix: What was it like to work with this cast?
Deblinger: The cast features Portia, Vinny Pastore and David Proval, and they are phenomenally talented, this has truly been a fantastic learning experience.
Review Fix: Who do you think will enjoy this one the most?
Deblinger: People who love suspense and honest accounts of mob life will love this…
Review Fix: Why should someone check it out?
Deblinger: Two reasons are the transcendent performances by David Proval and Vincent Pastore.
Review Fix: What’s next for you?
Deblinger: Next for me are auditions and more diaper duties for my new beautiful baby boy.
