Review Fix chats with Tonic frontman Emerson Hart, who discusses the band’s upcoming tour with Smash Mouth and Toad the Wet Sprocket, as well as the future of the band. Fresh off the release of a solo album, Hart also discusses how his solo work has positively affected the band.
Review Fix: How did this tour come to be?
Emerson Hart: We Have all known each other for years as touring bands and other than radio festivals here and there we never really had the chance to do a full tour together. It’s going to be a fun summer.
Review Fix: What are your goals as a band for the rest of the year?
Hart: I think our main goal is to play as many shows and have as much fun on the road as we can. Time spent on the bus writing new songs and getting to see familiar faces who have grown up with us is time well spent. We are also looking at a fast approaching 20-year anniversary for our first release “Lemon Parade.†We have some cool things in the works for that.
Review Fix: What do you guys still want to accomplish in music that you haven’t yet?
Hart: There are still a few parts of the world that we have not played.  We have been nearly everywhere, but we still have that itch to share music with new faces.
Review Fix: What do you think the band’s legacy is at this point?
Hart: Living in Nashville for 15 years now and being a songwriter I get to work with a lot of younger artists and writers. a lot of them grew up on our records or came to see shows. They mostly talk about the songs. That’s a legacy we can be proud off.
Review Fix: What makes your live performances special?
Hart: We love playing and I think that shows in the performance. after 20 plus years on the road it still feels fresh to us.
Review Fix: How do you think your solo projects have helped the band?
Hart: I think being able to create outside of the band has kept things healthy for all of us. Sometimes you have to say things on your own and come back refreshed and inspired.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Hart: I’m not really sure, but wine and new music will be involved.
