With no Kevin Owens, Finn Balor or Samoa Joe on this past week’s NXT, there were few memorable moments, but the Vaudevillians earning a shot at the NXT Tag Team titles was enough to ensure there was at least one reason to watch.
Check out this week’s NXT Power Rankings to see what else occurred on a serviceable episode of WWE’s developmental promotion.
5: Chad Gable: He hasn’t wrestled yet, but the kid’s got personality. Can he save Jason Jordan’s NXT career? Bottom line, he can’t do much worse than the other partners Jordan has had over the past few months.
4: Solomon Crowe: Back from injury, Crowe got a quick win over Marcus Louis to put himself back in the NXT picture. The brand’s “Little Monster,†he’s got some fan support and indie fans know who he is, he’s just got to put it all together.
3: Sasha Banks: One of the most dynamic female performers in the WWE, Banks will have her hands full next week when she defends her title against former champion Charlotte Flair.
2: The Vaudevillians: Aiden English and Simon Gotch continued their recent run of dominance with a win over Colin Cassady and Enzo Amore, earning a shot at the NXT Tag Team Champions Blake and Murphy. The best pure tag team in NXT, can they finally win the titles?
1: Finn Balor: The new NXT Champion presents a new direction for the promotion as Balor is far from the dominating force that Kevin Owens used to be. More a fan favorite and huge with kids, he’s got that duality the WWE likes to see out of their champions. Regardless, he’s got a ton of heart and plenty of skill, which means the NXT title scene will remain just as fast-paced and intriguing.
