3 X-Men Games You Overlooked or Didn’t Know Existed

As has been the case for the past 15 years or so, there’s a consistent stream of news coming from the world of Marvel-related films this week. On Sept. 16 alone there have been a pair of articles revealing some interesting bits about the X-Men universe in particular. Well, the first is a bit on the goofy side, with actress Olivia Munn showing off her moves while continuing to channel her X: Men Apocalypse character, Psylocke. The other headline is much more enticing, though, as apparently a Deadpool/Gambit/X-Men crossover film is in the works. It was pretty much confirmed by producer/screenwriter Simon Kinberg, who is indeed working on the upcoming Deadpool and Gambit films.

With all this information flying out of the X-Men camp, it’s certainly ramping up the fan anticipation for these films. And given that there are plenty of more obvious ways to pass the time until they’re released—playing Uncanny X-Men: Days of Future Past, for example—what about those lesser-known options that, if nothing else, deserve some investigating? Well, that’s where this article can help you out. Sure, at least one of these three games is a complete mess, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth mentioning.

X-Men: Destiny

There was a time when X-Men: Destiny seemed poised to become the biggest and best game to feature the mutants. But everything fell apart when Silicon Knights’ Denis Dyack pretty much made sure the title would be a Colossus-sized disappoint. He moved half of the development team to his own project and eventually rushed the game when he was pressured by the publisher, Activision. The end result? One of the absolute worst things to ever have the X-Men name attached to it. Yes, even worse than The Last Stand. By the way, you’re probably better off just knowing about this game instead of playing it, but the masochists out there can buy it on eBay.

Wolvering Slots

The connection between comics, casinos and super casino sites is a lot stronger than you may think. Whether physical or virtual, these venues have established a partnership with the big two comic book companies (Marvel and DC, of course) to bring their characters to another dimension. And in the case of the X-Men, there are plenty of examples of this occurrence. Wolverine has received his very own game, which is only natural given that he’s sort of the leader of the crew. Other characters from Marvel games, too, but hey, we’re talking about the X-Men here. You can try out this title at Gala Casino.

X-Men: The Ravages of Apocalypse

Remember Quake? If not, it may be time for you to do some googling to get familiar with the groundbreaking series and its pioneering engine. Well, pioneering to an extent, as it led to some rather ridiculous games, like X-Men: The Ravages of Apocalypse. It’s essentially Quake with some X-Men stuff thrown in, as you’re forced to shoot down evil clone version of Professor X’s team. It was probably fun for a few minutes, especially if you hated a certain character you got the chance to blow to bits, but this one definitely belongs in the “Weird” pile. You can play the game on Steam if you’re up for it.
