Review Fix chats with Cardinals Pride’s Alexis Paré, who discusses the band’s new EP, “Those People Will Never Die,†as well as what musical acts inspire the band the most and their plans for the future. Prepared to tour, write and record extensively over the next year, Cardinals Pride is preparing themselves for breakout success.
Review Fix: How did the band get together?
Alexis Paré: We are basically a bunch of friends from high school that played music in our drummer’s basement. We’ve always enjoyed our time spent together playing music or just hanging out so we decided to be a band and play shows.
Review Fix: What makes this EP special?
Paré: Good question here. It’s hard for me to define what makes this EP special or makes it stand out, but I guess I could say it is an EP that represents what we are capable of as a band and how diversified our influences are. The fact that we are French Canadiens also brings another perspective lyric wise as I like to juggle things around and use references of our own culture.
Review Fix: What’s the standout track on the EP? Why?
Paré: All the tracks are different. We wrote those songs knowing we would record a 5 song EP so we wanted every one of them to have their own identity/mood/purpose. I guess if you’re more into metal and metalcore you’ll like Refracted, but if you’re more into melodic hardcore, Bearers and Boundaries will definitely fit your taste. I’m Alright and Centuries Apart are my favorite though, I think you must hear those two songs if you want to understand the Cardinals Pride sound.
Review Fix: What did you guys learn about yourselves as musicians through this EP?
Paré: We learned how to write songs as a band. We’ve never had a solid process of writing before that EP. It’s amazing how things can progress and evolve quickly when you find an efficient way to work as a group. I don’t know about the other guys feel about their musicianship or their instrument skill, but I can say we usually write our songs slightly out of our comfort zone to push ourselves to become better musicians. I think you can definitely tell when you listen to our older songs.
Review Fix: What influences you guys the most?
Paré: Bands like Architects, Counterparts, Northlane and Periphery are our main musical influences, but we all have different musical and artistic backgrounds.
Review Fix: How do you want this EP to be remembered?
Paré: I truly hope TPWND will be remembered as a good first release. I mean, we obviously were a band before, we’ve released music, we’ve played shows and we’ve done a few tours, but signing to New Damage Records brings us in a whole new level as a band. This EP should be the true starting point of what I hope will be a long career in the music industry.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Paré: Touring, writing, recording. Lots of things are going to happen in the next year. We’re also going to release a music video pretty soon so stay tuned!
