“WWE 2K16” Adds New Features to Universe Mode

Universe Mode is back in “WWE 2K16,” and it has a bunch of improvements, according to a 2K blog post.

The match generation system has been rebuilt. Starting match cards are no longer similar across all game copies, and players shouldn’t see the same card when comparing Universes with their friends. Superstars can also be assigned to appear on multiple shows for stronger customization.

More cutscenes were added, and the storylines have been revamped to “focus more on quality over quantity.” Players can now choose up to 10 possible story paths between pay-per-views — up from last year’s two paths.

A new personality system was added, with a variety of stats that influence the Superstar’s traits. There are meters that compare a character’s opposing traits, including prideful vs. egotistical, respectful vs. disrespectful and bold vs. cowardly. Each wrestler will have default traits depending on their performances on WWE. These traits can change while playing or adjusted manually.

Players can get bonuses or penalties, called status effects, through gameplay or storylines. Some effects boost players’ attributes, others affect personality traits. Major and minor injuries to specific body parts are back as well.

Rivalries are now easier to keep track of in “WWE 2K16”: After a rivalry match, a results screen will help players keep tabs by giving immediate feedback on what was affected.

“WWE 2K16” launched on Oct. 27 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
