321 Fast Comics #2 Review: Skill, Speed and Variety

Creating a comic is not an easy feat. It’s even harder to make one that’s only three pages long. “Timberwolf Entertainment” has gotten a group of writers and artists together who have successfully done just that in “321 Fast Comics.” The goal is to write a comic that’s three pages with two characters and one twist. This continues in the second issue which keeps up the success of the first issue.

While the theme of the first issue was a bar with each comic getting a different drink recipe, here it’s a diner with each getting a recipe for a tradition diner dish. These themes have nothing in common with the comics themselves, but from a layout viewpoint it’s an interesting concept.

As for the comics themselves, as with any comic collection, they vary in quality. Some of the more interesting ones are “Point of View” (a mouse getting attacked by a woman) “Collateral Damage” (a bank heist) and “The Great Adventure Home” (father and son fighting a dragon.) These comics stand out in terms of storytelling, art and, most important of all, the twist.

Then there are some comics that, though their stories do have redeeming qualities, the twist or art just fall apart. Some of these include “A Moment of Perfect Fate” (the twist,) “Golden Circle” (the entire comic in general) and “Maintenance Hero” (boring.)

One positive note is that the strong comics do outnumber the weaker ones.

There is also a large variety of art on display here. There is cartoony (“Point of View,” “End of the Line,”) horror (“The Guest,”) and sci-fi (“Maintenance Hero.”)

One of the finest looking comics, and arguably the best comic, is “Sanctuary.” The only word that can describe this comic is “abstract.” The use blue, black and grey, as well as character designs that look more like what you’d imagine a person in a dream, gives this comic a surreal, almost comforting, look. The twist is a great ending to an already surreal experience.

“Timberwolf Entertainment” takes an interesting concept and makes it shine in “321 Fast Comics #2.” Many of the comics here are worth the read despite the length. Even though there are some comics that miss the mark, the overall experience is well worth it.
