Director Paul Bettany talks his inspiration for his directorial debut “Shelter,â€
Centered on a homeless New York City couple, Hannah (Jennifer Connelly) and Tahir (Anthony Mackie), the film is a story of judgment and forgiveness that was not initially a story about homelessness – however, Bettany saw a way to tackle the subject matter of the way people judge in telling a love story between two people who, due to their dark past, are inherently unforgiveable and judged non-stop.
