Review Fix Exclusive: Twelve24’s Josh Green Talks ’Nobody But You’ and More

Review Fix chats with from the group Twelve24, who discuss their new single, “Nobody But You.” Also chatting about their inspiration and goals for the future, Green gives us an inside look at what the pop/dance and Hip-Hop group wants to accomplish over the next few months and what makes them unique.

About the Band:

Hailing from three different continents, the band is as global as their sound. A fusion of feel-good pop, euphoric dance and technical rap, their music transcends borders, sounding as fresh anywhere on the planet as it does in their hometown of Manchester, UK. The band has spent the last six years building a loyal fanbase on stages from Manchester schools to arenas around the world. As well as playing every corner of the UK, they have performed in Denmark, Finland, France, Lithuania, Norway, Slovakia, South Africa, Sweden and the United States.

Twelve24’s music has scored comparisons to Macklemore (for their deep lyrical content and independence) and Calvin Harris (for their euphoric dance style). But ultimately, the band’s sound is entirely their own. They are fiercely protective of their artistic vision, writing and producing all of their tracks themselves, with the help of a close team of studio collaborators. Their music is not only catchy and ‘feel-good’ but is influenced by their personal stories and a positive, inspiring message refined by years of touring.

Review Fix: How did you guys get together?

Josh Green: We met around 8 years ago in Manchester, England in a training course called “Message Academy” and became friends straight away. We originally started going around High Schools performing covers and talking a bit about our Faith as Christians. As time went on, kids in schools said we were really good and we started to write our own songs, built up a fan base and took the music much more seriously. So…we have been making our own music together for about 5 years now.

Review Fix: You guys come from three different continents, how does that define your sound?

Green: I think our backgrounds and the fact that we are from three different continents, America, Africa and Europe totally influence our sound. It means we have the American Rap/Pop, African Afrobeats/Reggae/Soul feel and UK Dance/Electro elements. We love all different types of music and love fusing them into one. You can really hear that on our singles – on our album you will hear so many different styles, you’re bound to LOVE something!

Review Fix: What did you guys listen to growing up?

Green: So many people…and so random! Tracy Chapman, G-Unit, Sum 41, Linkin Park, S Club 7, Craig David! From Rock & Heavy Metal to cheesy Pop, Dance & Electro and acoustic stuff…we just love music!

Review Fix: How was “Nobody But You Written”? Is there a story behind it?

Green: “Nobody But You” is a track that we wrote at the start of 2015. We wanted to do a Drum ‘n Bass track with our own twist to it. The song is about how we all need somebody in life to get us through and enjoy life to the max! For us as Christians that person is Jesus so we sing it’s ‘Nobody But You’ meaning Him.

We also recognize that not everyone believes, and that’s fine, we are just expressing our own lives and opinions, but we think that people can relate to this song with a partner or a friend. We hope that people are inspired and encouraged to live life with the people they love and have a good time. WHY YA YA YA YA YEAH!

Review Fix: What makes your new single “Higher” special?

Green: “Higher” was the first single released from our brand new album “From The Ground Up” and was a big hit for us that made a lot of people stand up and take notice of us. The song had a brief stint on the iTunes dance charts, the music video was play-listed on MTVU and many other places…all things that never really happened to us before! So that was a real blessing and privilege to receive cool spots like that. We tried to blend old school 90’s with some of the new House stuff that is around at the moment – all with a little Gospel twist. That’s a pretty big blend and so I think that’s what makes it so special!

Review Fix: How do you influence each other?

Green: We have been together for about 8 years now so we obviously influence each other a lot in so many different ways. I think mainly we try to be positive and encouraging towards each other and always push each other to be the best we can be. We speak the truth in love and we always encourage each other not to let our pasts determine our future. We all had difficulties in life that we battled and struggled through but Jesus got us through and we all work together to keep centred around Jesus and how He teaches us to live!

Review Fix: How does it feel to be compared to Calvin Harris and Macklemore?

Green: Errr…yeah pretty cool, those guys are AMAZING! Really they are just people that we listen to, and that we love and continue to get inspired by, so that’s what we continue to strive for. Good art inspires others to create good art!

Review Fix: What are your goals as a group?

Green: As a group our primary goal is to inspire, encourage and challenge the world with our music and our perspective on life which is shaped by our faith in Jesus. That is the ultimate aim above all fame, money and accolades. Of course, in addition to that we want to make excellent music and for it to be as successful as it possibly can be.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Green: Well, we worked really hard on the album so now it’s time to spread it around the world to as many people as possible! The album is out – “From The Ground Up” – GET IT NOW!  We are going on tour in the UK in February and March as well as a tour in Sweden & Norway in April.
