Review Fix: How was this song written?

Olivia Penalva: This song was written in LA in September 2013. It was my first trip out to LA to songwrite with Sony/ATV writer Andrew Allen as well as another fellow Canadian living LA, Robin Ghosh. It was really warm out so it was funny to be thinking about Christmas, but being from Canada and knowing how festive and  fun white Christmases are, it was easy to tap into my imagination. The three of us wrote the song in one day, and we were all super happy with the outcome.

Review Fix: What do you think inspired it the most?

Penalva: Christmas is about family and friends, but also has that fun whimsical romantic feel. Around Christmas everyone is joyful and so the song is about sharing all those things that make up a white Christmas with the one you like or love.

Review Fix: What’s your idea of a perfect Christmas?

Penalva: I think the perfect Christmas is about being with friends and family and the ones you love. I have been in both hot and cold places at Christmas, and it is definitely more authentic when there is snow, but the happiness that everyone feels is really what makes it great. I love all the Christmas music, and the Christmas treats, and it is kind of fun to see all the presents wrapped under the tree.

Review Fix: How do you want it to affect people?

Penalva: I just want people to feel happy and nostalgic. The song is new but has a classic vibe which I think people enjoy. I have had so much great feedback about this song. The best moment is when someone hears it on the radio and tweets me or comments on Facebook or YouTube that it is their new favorite. I think it has a way of putting people into the Christmas spirit.

Review Fix: What are your goals for this song?

Penalva: Other than bringing out that festive vibe, I would love to see this song played everywhere. It has done really well here in Canada on radio, so it would be great to see it cross the borders and fill people’s homes in other countries.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Penalva: I am working hard on my new material and have some great songs. Hopefully maybe a January single release. Watch out for it.
