Review Fix chats with The Hypothesis’ guitarist Juuso Turkki, who discusses the band’s debut album, influences and goals for 2016. With fantastic string work and some catchy melodic arrangements, they are not your normal metal band.
Review Fix: How did the band get together?
Juuso Turkki: The band was founded in Kouvola 2009 but after several line-up changes the final band was ready in 2014. The current hometown is Helsinki.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Turkki: I mostly jam riffs on my couch at home and when I get a perfect inspiration from some riff I start the demo recording process. I usually get the idea about how the drumbeat would go together with the guitar riff. Then I just layer up the song other instruments.
Review Fix: What bands do you draw the most inspiration from?
Turkki: It doesn’t matter if it is a Göteborg-metal or American country. Basically, I draw my influences from anything that sounds beautiful.
Review Fix: What’s the standout song on the album? How was it written?
Turkki: An instrumental song called Second Chance. The song was born when I was messing around with tapping and pull-off’s. When the actual demo was ready the result was beautiful.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2016?
Turkki: We are really looking forward to our album release. Also, we are doing many shows this year so fun times are ahead.
Review Fix: Bottom line, what makes your debut album special?
Turkki: Tasty and catchy metal music meets professional music production alongside with great players. This is something that you need to hear.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Turkki: HYPO is hitting the road soon. Also, we will engage song-writing process once again.
