Review Fix Midtown International Theatre Festival Coverage: Marjorie Conn Talks ‘God Spelled Backwards’

Review Fix chats with Marjorie Conn, who discusses her interesting production at this year’s Midtown International Theatre Festival,”God Spelled Backwards.”

Review Fix: What was the inspiration for this project?

Marjorie Conn: I love animals and I started writing short stories about my memories and other people’s memories of beloved pets. I’ve been dabbling in ventriloquism for many years and thought it would really be fun to get some dog puppets and actually tell the stories to them. And recently I adopted a 5-pound senior dog and decided I would put him in the show.  So little by little the routine has evolved.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Conn: I like to challenge myself creatively which is why I am using a puppet on both hands plus a real dog.  Why make it easy for myself.

Review Fix: What makes this different or special?

Conn: I think it’s special because it’s a way to tell stories and sing songs in a unique way by involving ventriloquist puppets.  And then when the puppets take on a life of their own, it becomes really exciting for me.

Review Fix: What did you learn about yourself through this process?

Conn: That I love developing new projects.

Review Fix: How does it feel to be a part of something like this?

Conn: It’s always a thrill.
