Review Fix chats with “The Grade†playwright Seth Freeman, who discusses the production and its run at this year’s Midtown International Theatre Festival.
About The Grade:
THE GRADE by Seth Freeman, directed by Mike Keller; starring Joel Repman, Cherie Mendez, Colin Fisher, and Katie Repman. The challenges of intimacy can be heightened by unexpectedly blunt feedback. (Comedy)
Performance Schedule:Â Tues 3/15, 6:00pm; Sat 3/19, 5:15pm; Sun 3/20, 7:00pm
Review Fix: What was the inspiration for this project?
Seth Freeman: Inspiration?  Really?  Maybe wait until you see the play before you call it inspired.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Freeman: I get up in the morning and I write.  That’s not exactly true.  I brush my teeth before I get started.  To keep things lively, I sometimes change brands of toothpaste.
Review Fix: What makes this different or special?
Freeman: The story and the characters.  There are no bells and whistles, just a good yarn, which does take a rather unexpected, different, surprising course.
Review Fix: What did you learn about yourself through this process?
Freeman: It’s actually what I learn about other people in the process of writing that make the challenge worthwhile.
Review Fix: How does it feel to be a part of something like this?
Freeman: Fun.  I also feel honored to be part of MITF.
Review Fix: What are your ultimate goals for this production and for the future?
Freeman: More fun.  More productions.
Review Fix: What do you think your audiences will enjoy the most?
Freeman: The whole thing.  I hope.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Freeman: More plays and more fun.  In the next month, seven: four in NYC, one each in Baltimore, Melbourne and Sydney.
