National Video Games Examiner Patrick Hickey Jr. chats with Yoan Joncheret, Associate Producer, Mobile, Ubisoft Paris, who discusses “Smurfs Epic Run†on the iOS and Amazon. A 2D runner, “Smurfs Epic Run†combines the lovable licence with the type of gameplay that has made “Temple Run†and “Sonic Dash†mobile classics.
Patrick Hickey Jr.: What was the development cycle like?
Yoan Joncheret: The development of Smurfs Epic Run was, and still is, one of the best experiences I’ve had in game development.
With a team of up to 20 people, we had to put a lot of effort in our communication in order to be able to work smoothly between the different areas involved in game development.
Even though the development team itself is based in Paris, we’ve worked closely with teams from all around the world to bring Smurfs Epic Run to life.
For example, our internal testers are based in India, which is interesting for the dev team to deliver a version of the game at Paris’ end of day and have it tested overnight.  We can then discuss with the testers about the bugs encountered while the Paris’ team was asleep.
We have been working for more than a year on the game, from the pre-production to now, and are very excited to see the game being launched worldwide. Our attention is now primarily focused to look at players’ feedback, in order to enhance the game in future updates.
