Review Fix chats with playwright about his production “Die†at this year’s Midtown International Theatre Festival:
About Die:
DIE by Leonard D. Goodisman, directed by JC Sullivan. Snow White. The queen accused of killing her baby daughter has powerful sexual control over men, women, the investigating detective, and a protective reporter, but not so much her mirror. (Fairy tale/Drama)
Performance Schedule: Mon 3/7, 6:00pm; Thurs 3/10, 6:00pm; Fri 3/11, 7:15pm
Review Fix: What was the inspiration for this project?
Leonard D. Goodisman: The basic facts are real, an incredible but actual sequence of events, the settings and the interweaving with a fairy tale was a natural inspiration from the reality.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Goodisman: I think about the characters and the situation until the characters become real in my head and then I hear them talking to each other and try to put down what they say as accurately as possible and then I spend months editing and trying to make sure I understand so others also can.
Review Fix: What did you learn about yourself through this process?
Goodisman: At the end we won’t know fairy tale from reality, sane from crazy, evil from good, but we will be better informed about the world. The fairy tales that live in me and how they manifest themselves, also how this applies to others.
Review Fix: What are your ultimate goals for this production and for the future?
Goodisman: To get some recognition and find comfortable homes for my works and for the company involved in realizing the production.
Review Fix: What do you think your audiences will enjoy the most?
Goodisman: There are funny lines and funny images, also exciting and tense moments, but I hope they will also enjoy the piety situation that is probed.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Goodisman: Looking for further production opportunities for this and others of my plays and I have both a new full length I’m working on called Christian II and a new one act, called Our Tribe.
