Hell’s Kitchen Coverage: Raw Steak Anyone?

The Black Jacket chefs go back to school, and get a taste of being second in command in a new episode of “Hell’s kitchen.” The end is almost here, and this episode makes you know that.

The chef’s first challenge as Black Jackets started by being blindfolded and sent to “Animo Venice Charter High School.” It was here that they had to cook for 100 of the students. Before that, though, Ramsay had a little surprise: He showed each chef their high school yearbook photo. As you may have guessed, looking at their high school selves was embarrassing for each chef. And damn, Jared had a lot of hair in high school. What happened to it?

Each chef had to come up with their own dishes. Ariel made steak tostadas, Kristin made buttermilk fried chicken, Manda made tacos, Ashley made mini chicken pot pies and Jared made NY strip. Each chef was graded on a scale of F-A by each student (just like in school.) The chef with the most A’s won. The chef with the least A’s was Manda. It’s no surprise since she did make a basic taco. The winner was Jared. Goes to show that even high school seniors have sophisticated palates.

His reward was a day in “Levi’s Stadium” where he got to meet members of the San Francisco 49ers (Dwight Clark and Guy McIntyre.) He also got to choose who to take with him. He chose Kristin despite Ashley thinking she was Jared’s best friend.

The rest of the chefs had to deal with recycling day, courtesy of the students. Viewers expecting the usual gagging noises and maggots didn’t get that. Must have been one clean dumpster.

After a night where Ashley declared Jared dead to her and a make-up scene straight out of a drama, it was time for the first black jacket dinner service of the season. This service once again had chef’s tables, and it was the “Hell’s Kitchen” sous chefs. Meaning that each chef had a chance to be sous chef that night.

Jared started things by making raw scallops despite him saying he’s really good with fish. After that, it was Ariel up first as sous chef. Under her, Jared made a raw lobster tail.

Next up was Ashley. She immediately got confused by what’s on the ticket, and this was immediately after Ramsay called out the order. Jared once again got a fish dish wrong (burned snapper.) He would then make two raw snappers.

When it was Jared’s turn, Manda refused to talk to him. She also made a raw NY strip.

Manda’s turn was perfect, but she would go back to making mistakes once her turn was over.

Kristin’s turn had Manda make two undercooked NY strips. This made Ramsay force the chefs to go to the pantry for a talk. The pantry at Black Jacket time is pretty pathetic. Even after that, Jared made a raw Arctic char, causing Ramsay to kick out the chefs and cook the last table.

After that dismal performance, they had to choose one chef for elimination. They chose Jared. Ramsay also wanted to hear from Manda. They both got eliminated. With Jared gone, it is now obvious that this year’s winner will be female. It’s really no surprise; the men were all terrible this season. The final three are also no surprise. Manda had passion, but she wasn’t good enough.
