Review Fix: What kind of music did you grow up on? How did it influence you?
Alex Bent: I grew up listening to classic rock and pop music. I was a big fan of KISS growing up. I feel like that really motivated me to do something bigger with music. I always wanted to be more than just a guy singing songs. I wanted people to understand that the presentation was all a part of it too.Â
Review Fix: How was “Blonde American Girl written?
Bent: I started making the instrumental for the song in summer 2014. I was just getting into PARTYNEXTDOOR at that point and really liked that kind of vibe. Lyrically, the only purpose of the song was to paint a picture of an emotion I wanted to experience at that time. I borrowed certain details of people’s lives from different people I’ve met. I was never inspired by a specific person emotionally though. I just thought certain details of people’s lives were too good not to write about. I just wanted to help the listener believe that this story could be real.Â
Review Fix: What was it like to work with your grandfather?
Bent: It was great. We’ve only played together a few times. Once for a recital I played in when I was younger. I just wanted something unique to put at the end of the song. I thought it would be a really special experience to have him on the song.Â
Review Fix: Bottom line, why should someone check out this song?
Bent: Because it’s an ambient daydreaming anthem that you can find your heart in.Â
Review Fix: What’s next?
Bent: An album called “Dead, In The Water” is completed and ready to be released. I’m just waiting for the right moment to put it out. I have to know that people want it and that it will reach a new group of people. Hoping to do some live performances too!”
