Review Fix chats with talented and soulful singer Fantine about her new single “Get Up,†as well as working with acclaimed producer Emilio Estefan and her future in the industry and her recent nomnation for the Premios Lo Nuestro Awardaward.
Review Fix: How was “Get Up” written?
Fantine: Unlike most of my other songs and releases, Get up was written for me by wonderful writer and producer Drop. I didn’t know much about the song, except that I loved the sound of it and the lyrical content resonated with me personally. Almost like I did write it. I remember standing in the studio recording the song. Drop was wanting to get more emotion out of me and reminded me that the famous words of Marilyn Monroe were immortalised once more in the bridge of the song. And of course, she is one historical figure every girl, me included, can relate to: “I’m selfish impatient and a little insecure, I make mistake and I’m out of control and at times hard to handle, but if you can’t handle me at my worse, you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best.”Â
Review Fix: What are your goals for this track?
Fantine: The goal for this track is to get you and everyone else to Get Up and dance. Or at least sing along.Â
Review Fix: What was it like to work with Emilio Estefan?
Fantine: Working with Emilio Estefan was really fun. The time we spent in the studio with him and the writers and producers, also the musicians, that was magical. I always like that stage, the writing and recording stage of the process in this business we call music. It’s one thing I really understand and appreciate. Apart from live performance, writing and recording with talented musicians and producers, such as Emilio Estefan, is when I’m truly in my element.Â
Review Fix: What was it like to be nominated for a Premios Lo Nuestro Award?
Fantine: The Priomio Lo Nuestro came quite suddenly and out of the blue. I found out about the nomination on Instagram! Before I’d received any official confirmation, so initially I thought it was either a mistake or a joke, mainly because prior to this I’d never been nominated for anything. It was a great feeling and a proud moment. Even just the nomination has felt like and achievement.Â
Review Fix: What’s next?
Fantine: Next is the never ending cycle that is being a musician. More promotion, more shows. More fabulous travels meeting new people on and off stage. All of this will hopefully result in the release of my complete album. One that has been extremely anticipated by me and others and has been a long arduous time in the making. These are exciting times.Â
