Review Fix chats with the members of Maxdmyz to find out how they got together, who influences them and what their goals are for the rest of the year. A wild and chaotic mix of metal, their tunes are for the hardcore appreciators of the genre.
Review Fix: How did the band get together?
Twister: The band in its current state has grown piecemeal – I’m the only original member although Jay and I have been working together for a while. A’Zedd and Vortex joined at around the same time a couple of years back – and Roger joined last year.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Roger: Chaotic – usually clouded by a haze of bourbon fumes and body heat. Seriously, we’re pretty methodical – but vocals tend to come last – the great thing about this band is that we’re all writers and equally good = and we each get real pleasure in stimulating each other’s creative juices – er, that kinda came out wrong… but you know what I mean.
Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?
Vortex: The last one – it’s always the last one. It’s called Reason to Live and it’s a real collaborative effort – and kind of a new sound for the band. Looking back, it’s Cosmic Hearse for me – which is off the release before last = it’s what made me want to join the band, and it is just an amazing tune – up there with the greats in my view. Then, off the last album The Hate Plane, it’s got to be Hate Injustice –Love Truth.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2016?
A’Zedd: I think the band is well placed now to make a real assault on the tour circuit – we’ve got new management in the form of Pure Power/Darkside, who in just a few weeks have really started to make a difference for us – and we want to build on some pretty surprising but welcome levels of downloads and radio play – especially States-side.
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Twister: We want it to be visceral, pure and simple – if you want music, you’ve got Mozart and the London Philharmonic – but if you want your brain, your soul and your spirit to connect with your balls – choose metal, and if you’re going to choose metal, choose Maxdmyz.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Jay: We’ll be doing some recording soon with a view to an album release early next year – Ays Kura of Die Kur will be producing – we’ve also got a lot of work lined up into October, where there’ll be a few more European dates to add to the ones we’ve got already, hopefully. We’re especially looking forward to playing Kettfest and Crossfest in July and August, and an industrial metal festival in France later this year. The very next shout is supporting Spreading the Disease at T Chances in London on 20 May.
