Jupiter’s Legacy 2, Issue #1 Review: Getting Somewhere

Mark Millar and Frank Quitely’s “Jupiter’s Legacy” series may have had a slow start but it has picked up steam. After the first volume where we see how the world become the way it is, the second volume is when the villains strike back and the first issue sets up the story nicely.

After staging a coup against her dad, Chloe, along with her boyfriend Hutch and son Jason, are now scouring the world to recruit all the super villains to fight against the superheroes.

This issue is just an introduction to all the super villains that are being recruited. All we see is who each character is, their name, power and how they got recruited. It also all goes at a breakneck speed.

As far as introductory issues go, this is one of the most interesting ones. Many of the introductions do show off some of the characters and what they are about, and those characters are interesting.

The problem is that they are introduced one at a time in a one panel. While it’s understandable why this is done, the next few issues need to go a bit more into detail about them or else they will be nothing but red shirts that we don’t care about.

As an aside, this is an excellent idea for a plot. There is so much that can be with it and the aftermath has so many openings that it makes the reader want to see how it’ll be pulled off.

The art has gotten noticeably better since the last issue. Everything from the character designs to the back has been improved. Small details such as objects in the distance no longer look weird.

The first issue of “Jupiter’s Legacy 2” is a nice introduction issue to a plot that can go in many ways. With improved artwork, this story has the potential to be something great.
