With two weeks to go before Summerslam, you would have expected RAW to tighten up their ship and get storylines moving. But with still relatively no heat between Finn Balor and Seath Rollins and a plethora of squash matches and boring encounters, RAW, after a great first week of the new era, has failed to captivate.
Add in the Guest Starring role of P-Diddy and this week’s RAW was a snoozer.
Simply put, something big has to happen next week or else the RAW portion of Summerslam is going to be weak.
Matches:
Chris Jericho w/Kevin Owens vs. Enzo Amore w/Colin Cassidy: A slow opener as neither Jericho or Amore did anything noteworthy for the first ten minutes of the match. Owens made his presence felt though, nailing Amore with a first while the referee’s back was turned. Amore got back in the match with a Running Crossbody and a Modified Facebuster, but he eventually walked right into the Walls of Jericho. Although he escaped, Jericho eventually hit the Codebreaker (thanks to help from Owens) and Cass was forced to interfere and nail Jericho with the Big Boot, to get the match thrown out and give Jericho the DQ win. After the match, Cassady challenged Jericho and Owens to a match at Summerslam, to which they accepted.
Braun Strowman vs. Jorel Nelson: Strowman got the squash win with the Reverse Chokeslam.
Darren Young w/Bob Backlund vs. Titus O’Neil: Young got the win the easy way with the Rollup and a handful of tights, although Backlund didn’t see it.
Cesaro vs. Sheamus: Like last week, this was another war that saw Sheamus hit Cesaro with nearly every move in his arsenal. Ironically, Cesaro got the win with a Rollup.
The Dudley Boys: Bubba Ray and Devon vs. Adrian Neville and Sin Cara: Neville got the surprising win with the Red Arrow over the aging Dudley Boys.
Luke Gallows w/ Karl Anderson vs. The WWE Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston w/ Xavier Woods: Gallows got the surprisingly quick win with the Pancake. After the match, Kingston almost got some Ringpostitis, but Woods made the save.
Impromptu: United States Champion Rusev vs. Cesaro: Rusev worked on Cesaro’s arms and shoulders, but Cesaro still had a ton of energy. Fighting back with strikes and a Tornado DDT, Cesaro pushed Rusev to the limit, but couldn’t put him away. It wasn’t until Rusev latched on the Sharpshooter that it appeared he was ready to win, although Sheamus’ arrival in the match allowed Rusev to hit the Standing Side Kick for a near-fall. Cesar then hit the Neutralizer, but Sheamus played a role again as well as an “injured†referee. Soon enough, Rusev and Sheamus combined on kicks and got the win on Cesaro.
