Review Fix chats with Zander and Nykii Nightmare of Remnants of Hope, who discuss their creative process, goals for the future and their track, “Symphony of Sorrow.â€
Review Fix: How did the band get together?
Nykii Nightmare: We all saw Avenged Sevenfold live. After that we all knew we wanted to play in a band. We’re brothers and our parents took us to see them (we were much younger at the time, Zander at the oldest was 15). After three years of playing covers in our garage and recording the ones we felt we did better, we wrote a song. The song was called “Darkest Place.†It was our first time recording a song we wrote. You can listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbjpaVokx2w . Zander wrote the lyrics, Paul and Nykii composed the instruments together. It was kind of like laying down the blue-prints of how we would then write most of our songs, with a few exceptions of course.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Nykii Nightmare: I compose the music with Paul. Zander and myself usually get together and work on the lyrics. The topics depend on what we feel the songs music needs. Sometimes we write in an post-apocalyptic setting other times we write about things that effect us in real life.
Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?
Zander: Symphony of Sorrow. Nykii and myself  wrote it during a hard time for the band, we were just starting to get some momentum and we were catching a lot of static for being a band that wore some guy-liner. It was written as an Anthem for us, we wanted it to have a positive message to keep your head down and keep fighting. It’s still one of our favorites to play live.
Review Fix: What are your goals for 2016?
Nightmare: To play in Tennessee and the Carolinas. People have been asking us to play there for a while now and we’re working on getting out to those places. So far 2016’s been a serious blast off year for us. We’ve played with Famous Last Words, Outline in Color, Palaye Royale, Open Your Eyes as well as playing in Mississippi and doing a four part video series for an EP release.
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Nightmare: We want it to give people strength. The songs you put on when you need to win. The songs you put on when you’re at a boss battle in a video game or real life.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Nightmare: Opening for Alesana and Famous Last Words on 10/12 then playing with Blood On The Dance Floor on 10/16. After that we plan to play Athens, Alabama on the fourth of November.
