Review Fix Exclusive: Mik Talks ‘The Nation’ And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Mik, who discusses his new track and video, “The Nation.”

About Mik:

Mik is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist originally from Italy. From the early days as a child, when he was 12 years old, Mik started writing his own songs and always learning and playing cover songs along the way. He studied guitar, bass and piano while developing his voice as a singer.

Mik trained with various well known Italian songwriters and vocal coaches: Giuseppe Anastasi, Giuseppe Barbera, Piero and Massimo Calabrese, Fulvio Tomaino, Paola Folli, Danila Satragno.

In 2006 Mik trained for six months with Italian jazz singer Laura Scomparcini using the Voicecraft Method. Soon after, Mik’s first band called The Photonik performed at the Highfield Festival on the MTV/Coca-Cola stage in Hohenfelden, Germany. The Photonik performed in front of 5.000 fans as the Opening Act for Ash and the Kaiser Chiefs.

Review Fix: What inspired “The Nation”?

Mik: My simultaneous love for travel, and also for my roots. I know it is a contradiction. But I love it.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Mik: The process always starts with myself sitting somewhere with a guitar. The songs come to visit you if the day is good. For example, last time I wrote a song while I was changing my guitar strings. And then there’s so much work to do, lyrics, arrangements, production, recordings, re-recordings, mastering. Normally I produce from 4 to 8-10 versions of the song to find my favourite one, sometimes it happens that the first one remains good, sometimes not. I don’t like to hear too much postproduction in my works, I prefer a natural feel, so what is perfect for me, maybe is absolutely wrong for another listener.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2017?

Mik: Nine more songs, nine more videos, nine more stories; put all of them in a cd/dvd, supporting this project with gigs all around European and American Clubs.

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

Mik: My wish is to relax people, make them feel comforted and cuddled by my music, even when it beats more.

Review Fix: How do you want this song to be remembered?

Mik: As an honest quite good song. With a good video that expands the meaning of words and music.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Mik: Gigs, gigs, gigs! In Italy, in Europe, soon in America.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Mik: Please don’t forget to watch the video realized for the song on my YouTube Channel and check my recent work with my band THE PANICLES. Let me know if you like it or not, if you want you can contact me on my FB Page (facebook.com/mikprofile).
