Review Fix Exclusive: Aaalyssa DeBoer Talks Genesis EP And More

Review Fix chats with techno composer Aaalyssa DeBoer, who discusses the inspiration behind her debut EP, “Genesis.”

Review Fix: How did you get involved in music?

Aaalyssa DeBoer: I had always really loved music. I probably have listened to music 12 hours a day since I was a little kid. I didn’t really pursue learning or a career in music until a few years ago. I just woke up one day and it was like ay I guess this is what I’m doing with my life.

Review Fix: What makes you special as a performer?

DeBoer: Review Fix Exclusive: Aaalyssa DeBoer Talks Genesis EP And More I’m special because my music is different. I don’t want to say it if there is music that may be similar, but I think my music is as close as it gets to one of a kind.

Review Fix: How was “Genesis” written? What inspired it?

DeBoer: I just wanted to make some solid adventuring music. The album was inspired by fairy tales to be completely honest.

Review Fix: What are your goals for this album?

DeBoer: Whenever I tell someone I make music they ask to hear some of my stuff but I never had released any of it. I wanted to have something out there you know? People can take me seriously now.

Review Fix: How do you want it to be remembered?

DeBoer: I’ll be extremely happy if somebody remembers it!

Review Fix: How are your live shows different from your studio work?

DeBoer: I haven’t done any live shows, not from lack of interest though! I just got to learn how to DJ a bit better before I start doing those. My process involves a lot of trial and error, the difference is being able to know what’s good before you do it. I really want to be able to do some live shows by the summer.

Review Fix: Who inspires you musically?

DeBoer: That is an ever changing answer. When I find an artist I enjoy I listen to them constantly (like 1000’s of times on repeat) until I get sick of the songs. Right now I am really loving Gigi D’Agostino, EDEN, and Melanie Martinez. All of them, on different spectrums, really make you feel something.

Review Fix: What’s next?

DeBoer: I’m going to be releasing a bunch of remixes and do collaborations. I’m so stoked to work with other artists/their masterpieces.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

DeBoer: Listen to my album! It’s available on Youtube, Soundcloud, Spotify, iTunes, and absolutely everywhere else. If you like it, share it with some people. That helps me just as much as purchasing it.
