Review Fix chats with author and singer Ambition, who discusses his newest project, “The Phoenix Project.â€
Review Fix: What inspired “The Phoenix Project”?
Ambition: The Phoenix Project is a renewal of myself as an artist. A Phoenix can burn out his old life and rise from the ashes a new and stronger bird. I guess that is a strong metaphor for where I’m heading in my career and burning out my past.
Review Fix: What makes this EP special?
Ambition: I got to work with some amazing producers on this album. Allan Seu & Revenge Music as well as Black Phenix & Live It Soul Records all from France. I also worked with J Pad from Pittsburgh & Mindbender Studios. Ive been lucky to have some great tracks to write to that are so different than what I am used to. It’s forced me to expand my writing in a good way and also blend it with some of the old. There are 3 different styles to this album, R&B, Hip Hop and Pop. I wanted to have a little something for everyone including myself and let people see the versatility in my delivery. The Phoenix Project is also a Visual Album. Every song will be released as a video first before streaming and downloads.
Review Fix: What’s the standout song on the EP?
Ambition: It’s hard to say because every song has a different vibe and uniqueness to it but for me the stand out song is definitely Let Me Go produced by Revenge Music. It talks about being in a relationship that is obviously not working and I’m realizing that we could both do better for ourselves. But sometimes it’s hard to let go even when you know you should, and this song is simply saying, Let Me Go. It’s meaningful, in a reverse sort of way, you can dance to it or you can listen to the words and relate it to a situation you may have gone through or may be experiencing now.
Review Fix: How did your time with Pretty Ricky influence your style now?
Ambition: It definitely taught me different ways of writing and approaching a track when I’m going to write. The style is a lot different from the Pretty Ricky style, only because I wanted to recreate myself as a solo artist and do what best fits my talents.
Review Fix: What have you learned from Rick Ross, Trey Songz, Kerri Hilson, Eric Bene’t?
Ambition: These artists are all very very hard working and dedicated to their craft. Even when they are traveling on the road or in the airport, they are working on something. But at the same time no matter how hard it gets or how much work they have to do, they still do it because they have a genuine love for music and for their fans. Thats the type of artist I want to be, dedicated and driven.
Review Fix: How does your fiction writing affect your music?
Ambition: Writing fiction lets me escape from the world for a little bit. I write fiction in my novels because I share so much of my reality with the world. All of my music is based on my life story and i keep things honest so that my fans can listen to my music and walk away knowing a little more about me than they did before. Writing fiction gives me an outlet for all of my random dreams and fantasies so I can keep my music real.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Ambition: I will keep making music, performing and putting out videos until I can’t physically do it any longer. I hope to sign to a label in the future but I’ve been doing very well with my management company OAG Management. They got me this far and will always be a part of my winning team.
