Hell’s Kitchen Recap: Koop Flew

The Blue Team continues to struggle as they try to find some way to not be the worst team ever on an all-new episode of “Hell’s Kitchen.” Red seems to be a lucky color this season.

On this episode, the chefs had to do a mainstay challenge since Season 1: The Blind Taste Test. As with last year, there was a catch: each chef on each team took turns sitting on a highchair and if their teammate got three wrong they would get a face full of baby food. Since the Blue had one less chef, Wendy volunteered to go up twice. She nailed all four foods the first time around.

The rest of the blind taste test had some low-lights. Devin thought bacon was black beans (how?) and also thought avocado was turnip (again, how?) Koop though mushrooms were pork, Paulie thought tomato was green beans, Shaina thought broccoli was steak and Andrew also thought steak when it was really eggplant (they’re chefs, by the way.)

The chefs that got a face full of baby food were Wendy, Kimberly, Shaina and Heather.

It was tied 13-13 with Wendy beating Andrew in the sudden death round, giving the blue the win. Their reward was spa treatment at the “Intercontinental Hotel” in a suite with food and champagne.

The Red, on the other hand, had to deal with delivery day. Meaning lots of heavy lifting. That also meant they had to carry in only 52 bags of ice, but got 102 instead because they didn’t get the invoice. That’s one way for Ramsay to make sure the chefs do something properly: check all the details. It’s evil, but it does teach them a lesson in looking at details.

At dinner service, both teams killed it at apps, but the problem the Red had was when Matt thought Ramsay called out one lamb but it was two. The Blue was a train wreck during entrees.

Koop only put out two fillets of fish instead of four for the loup de mer (two fillets per portion) and Paulie brought up undercooked lamb. Later, Koop got called out by Ramsay for cooking salmon and sea bass in the same pan, something every chef should know. The end came when Paulie brought up way undercooked lamb. Ramsay threw the entire team out.

The Blue nominated Koop and Paulie with Koop being eliminated.

It’s no surprise that Koop got eliminated. He was already on thin ice. Admitting that he threw a chair in the dorms when the Blue got thrown out had to be a big reason for his elimination. The only reason the Blue won the day’s challenge was because of Wendy. It’s becoming more and more obvious that a female will win this season. Ramsay even told the Red Team to pick two chefs to go to the Blue Team.
