Review Fix chats with Redwire’s D Goomani, who discusses the band’s origin, creative process and goals for the future.
Review Fix: How did the band get together?
D Goomani: Redwire started with myself and Aimee realising a mutual love of music, jamming after work and beginning to write riffs and improvising together. After a while my songwriting was getting better and we realised the songs were actually pretty good, so they started to look for other band members to perform together. They first found singer Mario in early 2014 and started serious rehearsals for their first gig at the 12 Bar Club in May 2014. Our current drummer Mike is quite new to the band but fits in perfectly.
Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?
Goomani: I’m our primary songwriter that normally comes up with lyrics, riffs and structure for the songs. The lyrics are normally based on his life experiences and are quite personal. Aimee and I then work together to carve out a good song and then we show it to the rest of the band and work on it all together from there on.
Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?
Goomani: Our standout song is probably Street Lights, from our debut EP. It’s a ballad and it’s about trying to find your way in life, and if you feel alone there are always people around you to help if you let them. It was written by me, as an expression of how I’ve previously felt in life.
Review Fix: What are your remaining goals for 2016?
Goomani: We have a planned residency at the Dublin Castle, which is based on the success of the massively popular Redrock Festival, which Redwire organised and hosted. We had 15 UK and European bands play and a lot of people came to take part in the day.
Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?
Goomani: We don’t write frivolous songs, we want our songs to be relatable and mean something to people. Music has an inherently special way of touching people and we’ve all experienced that. We hope we can inspire or help people that listen to us in one way or another.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Goomani: We have a single and EP planned for next year and we’re also playing at Breaking Bands Festival in May. We also have a European Tour planned for April where we’ll rock Germany, Belgium, Sweden and Denmark, we’re very much looking forward to that! We’ve also been talking to a couple of managers too so 2017 looks very promising for Redwire.
