WWE RAW Coverage: A Blah Show to End 2016

The last RAW of 2016 was a whimper. A huge card with predictable matches and a lack of effective promo made for three hours of wrestling you could have easily missed. Something has to change and soon or else the promotion’ flagship show’s ratings are going to dip even further.

Matches:

The New Day: Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods w/Big E. Langston vs. The WWE RAW Tag Team Champions: Antonio Cesaro and Sheamus: Kingston was on his game, nearly winning with an SOS on Sheamus, while Woods used his speed to nearly win with a massive Elbow Drop. Interference from Langston nearly secured a win for Kingston, but a blind tag from Cesaro allowed Sheamus to hit a Brogue Kick on Woods for the win.

Nia Jax vs. Scarlet: Jax got the quick win with the Samoan Drop and hit the Leg Drop after the three-count.

WWE RAW Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair vs. Bayley, Dana Brooke/Special Guest Referee: A disaster as Bayley hit the Belly-to-Bayley on Brooke, forcing another referee into the match. Bailey soon had the match in hand before Brooke pulled the other ref and fast-counted the win as Flair had her legs on the ropes.

Neville vs. TJ Perkins: Neville got the win on a reverse of a Rollup/Knee Bar (and a handful of tights) following the Detonation Kick.

Darren Young and Bo Dallas w/Bob Backlund vs. The Shining Stars: Primo and Epico: Braun Strowman destroyed all four competitors and Backlund to get the match thrown out.

Seth Rollins vs. Braun Strowman: Rollins dominated, but Strowman’s strength kept him in the match until Sami Zayn attacked him to get the match thrown out. With Rollins down, Chris Jericho hit the ring and took out Rollins with the Code Breaker.

The Golden Truth: R-Truth and Goldust vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson: A boring match that saw Anderson steal a win with a Rollup.

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann vs. Ariya Daivari: Swann won with the Rich Kick, but Neville destroyed him after the match.

United States Champion Roman Reigns vs. WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens: As expected, Chris Jericho played a role. Owens actually almost won the match with a Codebreaker. Rollins hit the ring right after and took out Jericho with a Pedigree on the outside, but Reigns hit the Spear to retain the US title. After the match, Rollins hit Owens with the Pedigree, while Reigns nailed Jericho with a Spear.
