Roadblock felt like a great episode of RAW thanks to the return of Neville and spectacular performances by Cesaro, Sheamus and of course, Charlotte Flair and Sash Banks. But more hijinx between Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho and Roman Reigns washed away any momentum this event could have had, making it an above average event overall.
In the end, this event forces you to think again, why does the WWE have to have two events a month now? The PPV era is dead, replaced with an “event†system that does nothing other than make you think that by watching you’re going to see something “special.†That just hasn’t been the case the majority of the time.
Matches:
Kick-Off: Big Cass vs. Rusev: A disaster as Cass’ concerns for Enzo cost him the match as he was counted out, giving the win to Rusev.
RAW Tag Team Champions: The New Day: Kofi Kingston and Big E. Langston w/Xavier Woods vs. Sheamus and Cesaro: The new Day escaped pitfall on a plethora of occasions, but it was on the strength of a fake tag by Cesaro that allowed Sheamus to pick up the win with a Rollup after Kingston hit the Trouble in Paradise on Cesaro.
Braun Strowman vs. Sami Zayn: Strowman decimated Zayn for the entire 10 minutes but he survived and hit a Helluva Kick at the end of it all to prove he did more than just squeak by.
Chris Jericho vs. Seth Rollins: A great encounter that unfortunately felt like a RAW match after Owens interfered again, costing Jericho the match as Rollins reversed the Codebreaker and transitioned into a Pedigree for the win.
WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann vs. TJ Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick: Perkins and Kendrick nearly won on several occasions with submissions, but Swann got the win with the Rich Kick. After the match, Neville hit the ring and took out both Swann and Perkins.
30-Minute Iron Man Match: WWE RAW Women’s Champion Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte: This was arguably their best encounter yet as they went back and forth for the entire match. After Flair got a pinfall with the Natural Selection/Blockbuster/Diamond Dust variation from the top rope, Banks got a fall with a disgusting looking pinning combination. After Banks got a tap out with the Bank Statement, Flair got a tap out of her own with the Figure-Four with just three seconds left. Once in Overtime, Flair got the win with the Figure-Eight to reclaim the WWE RAW Women’s Championship.
WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns: An evenly-matched encounter that ended with Reigns being DQed after Chris Jericho hit Owens with the Codebreaker. After the match, Rollins hit the ring and took out Jericho with the Pedigree while Reigns nailed Owens with a Spear. Jericho and Owens were also Double-Powerbombed through announce tables.
