‘A Story of the End – Revere’ Demo Thoughts

Thanks to plenty of throwback RPG elements that’ll make you smilem the demo for “A Story of the End – Revere” seamlessly exhibits the necessary RPG elements in the small window given. However, this short but impactful demo has a long way to go before it can be considered a solid RPG, based on the demo alone.

The cinematic intro reels you into a fantasy-based story. This story is mostly focused on the protagonist named Troy. Other than being a Lumerian soldier and getting shunned by the various villagers because of his comrades, the stories narrative of Troy is slightly vague because of its’ limitations. The game’s story is also tied to creatures called “soul beasts”. Since it’s only a demo, the game is not as inclusive on the concept around these mysterious creatures.

Overall the gameplay is mostly a tutorial driven demo. Players have the choice of using their keyboard keys or point and click controls to move the character in the overworld or in battle.

The tutorial side of the demo is highly instructive, teaching you all the ins and outs of the game. If players are getting fed up with running into battles they can change it to either a low or high encounter rate. This feature enables players to focus more on the story itself, if that’s what they’re more interested in. But, if players are more focused on leveling up their team, they can set the encounter rate to 100% and run into battles almost instantly.

The graphics and texture of the game holds up just like any other typical 2D turn-based RPG game would. The character drawings also has an anime-like feel to them. Besides that, what makes this game amusing is the interactions with the NPCs and signs within the game. They can be cleverly humorous when it’s necessary.

“A Story of the End – Revere Demo” is a simple RPG but has the potential of being a moderate game if improvements are made in the official installment of the game.
