Eisenhorn: Xenos #0 Review: A Welcomed Start

Over the past few years, video game companies have decided one of the best ways to hype up their new game and put in some backstory is to write a comic about it. One of the more recent examples of this is “Game Workshop” and “Pixelhero Games” teaming up with “T Pub” to create “Eisenhorn: Xenos #0,” a prequel to ‘Eisenhorn: Xenos The Game” written by Ryan O’Sullivan with art by Anthony Spay, Anthony Fowler and Andre Campos. This prequel to the game does a decent job of what it’s supposed to accomplish.

Gregor Eisenhorn is an inquisitor to the God-Emperor of Mankind. He has been tasked to find and kill a criminal named Eyeclone. On the way, he is joined by a gang member named Lores Vibben to aid him.

As far as an introduction to a game world, it does the job of introducing the characters and the world. After reading this comic you know what to expect when you play the game and who the “good” and “bad” guys are.

The plot itself is decent enough. An inquisitor being helped by a criminal catch a criminal is fine. It’s a bit cliché, but the comic does keep the characters and world interesting enough for people to want to check out the game further.

The art is mediocre. The character designs look alright as do the backgrounds. The problem is the facial expressions don’t show enough or no emotion to the particular scenario. Scenes where characters normally should have some kind of reaction there is none to be had. It’s a bit unsettling to see something like that.

“Eisenhorn: Xenos #0” gets the job done with an excellent introduction to this game’s universe. The story and art aren’t anything to get excited about, but the overall experience does make the reader want to check out the game when it comes out.
