Review Fix Exclusive: Inside Bear With Me: Episode Two

Review Fix chats with Andrej Kovačević, Game Director of the second episode of Bear With Me: Episode Two. Breaking down what makes the newest episode a special one, Kovačević lets us know what to expect.

Review Fix: What did you learn from Episode One?

Andrej Kovačević: We really learned a lot. We learned how to organize the production much better which resulted in making almost twice the content in one third of the time. We learned that episodic games have some advantages to them, like being able to listen to the feedback from the community and apply them to upcoming episodes. We also learned that you can’t make everybody happy.

Review Fix: How did it influence Episode 2?

Kovačević: Mostly through the feedback. We were able to read all the comments and watch all the videos and see what our players liked the most and where there is room for improvement. It’s great to be able to respond to your community. We hope that they will be thrilled with this episode.

Review Fix: What was the development process like?

Kovačević: It was a lot different than the first one. We had a big Lessons Learned meeting before we started working on the second one. Everyone was free to pinpoint our weak points and suggest possible improvements. This has really united the team and gave us new energy and focus.

Review Fix: How is this episode different in terms of gameplay?

Kovačević: Gameplay does not change much in this episode. It’s the development of both the story and our main characters Amber and Ted that drives the episodes forward. With all new scenes and all new characters there is again a lot to discover.

Review Fix: Why must someone play it?

Kovačević: Character, charm and atmosphere are Bear With Me’s trademarks. If you enjoy a healthy dose of sarcasm and don’t mind laughing at yourself you will most definitely enjoy the experience. And the ending is… no spoilers.

Review Fix: How does it advance the point and click genre?

Kovačević: Tough question, it probably goes back more than it advances. To when the characters were full of life and wit and when the situations relied heavily on humor to resolve potentially harmful or dangerous situations. We’ll have the advancement in mind for the next one.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Kovačević: Polishing and pushing this one and than repeating our Lessons Learned meeting and listening to the feedback. That’s always an exciting and terrifying time.
