Review Fix Exclusive: Inside ‘Machrace’

Review Fix chats with ‘Machrace” developer Max Enko, you details the game’s development, creative inspirations and goals for the future. An uber sexy game that is deeper than your usual indie game, it’s Raiden with shades of Wipeout and has definitely got some replay value.

About Machrace:

Pilot supersonic craft and race your way to the top in the fastest racing game ever made. MachRace is a casually intense arcade racer where you break mach speed to advance.

Defeat the deceptive AI that is trying to kill you while pretending to be your friend. Unlock advanced ships as you beat your own records, and see where you rank in the global leaderboard.

Review Fix: What inspired the creation of this game?

Max Enko: Mainly it was a lack of casual, but intense indie games on the market. I thought that Temple Run and old-school games like Raiden hit the spot perfectly – you didn’t have to spend an entire afternoon just to get a few adrenaline filled 15-minute sessions.

Review Fix: What makes it special?

Enko: MachRace can be picked up in just a few minutes. What makes it unique among other endless runners is the low commitment coupled with high intensity. It will also be the story that whole game is designed along. The further you get into the game the more is revealed. One of the design goals is not to be heavy handed with storytelling, and let the story happen rather than be told. There will be no reading, no forced dialogue or text, just through gameplay and passive immersion alone – part of that is having VOX - in-game flight navigator (inspired by corporate HR) reveal its true intentions as it loses control of the pilot.

Review Fix: What was development like?

Enko: Development is a blast. I’ve attempted to do games several times in the past, but nothing quite hit the sport like Unreal Engine 4 – its way ahead of everything out there at the moment and is a lot of fun to work with. Above all, I am in love with the process of making a game. I don’t think I could have been as productive in any other engine today. It’s been well over a year and is, even more, fun now than it was when the project got started.

Review Fix: Who will enjoy this game the most?

Enko: So far the appeal seems to be across the board. Anyone who played fast paced arcade games in the ‘90s and some of today’s classics on mobiles will be able to get into MachRace. There also a lot of interest from Wipeout fans out there due to aesthetics, but the mechanics of both handling and weapons are very different.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the game in 2017?

Enko: This is the year the game will be released. It was originally planned for 2016 holiday release, but as close as it is to being complete – I’d rather go further and make it even better. When it’s finally out of Greenlight – it will be complete and polished with many layers working together.

Review Fix: How do you want it to be remembered?

Enko: As a video game equivalent of a quadruple espresso shot. Don’t play it before bedtime.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Enko: The game is coming soon, with Steam Greenlight releases coming at more frequent pace. Stay tuned.
