Review Fix chats with Kinnefret’s Artak Ozan to discuss the band’s origins and goals for the future. With a cool story and plenty of diversity, they’ve got a unique sound.
Review Fix: How did you guys get together?
Artak Ozan: I moved to the US in 2011 from Turkey and started KInnefret right away. At first, he started jamming with a drummer Ben Gibbs and after a year they started playing shows. I was the singer and guitar player, Ben Gibbs on drums and Jim Pegram on guitars.
After a while, Ben Gibbs left the band and I asked Aran Pakkhoo drummer from Necrosin to join the band. He was a great drummer and brought a whole new sound to the band. One day that we were jamming at Guitar Center studios, we noticed a great vocal sound from next door and went to check out who it was. It was Chelsea Rocha. We then asked her if she wants to join the band as the main singer and her answer was yes. We’ve been playing together until today- we’ve been through few bass players, but no one as our permanent bassist, but still searching for one.
Review Fix: What do you think makes this band special?
Ozan: Being female-fronted and sounding different, we all are from Iran and our singer is from the US and that brought a unique look to our band and live performances.
Review Fix: How would you describe your style?
Ozan: All the band members except the singer are from Iran, we have a unique middle eastern sound and we blend that with European death metal and American thrash metal.
Review Fix: What are your goals for this album?
Ozan: Our goal is to have this album out and make it heard as much as possible and get recognized by record labels, booking agencies and metal fans.
Review Fix: What’s the standout song? Is there a story behind it?
Ozan: It is very hard to say because we really like our album and each song in it, but I think Victim “Eyes†is the one that stands out the most.
Review Fix: What’s next?
Ozan: Recording a new music video, writing new material and playing more shows.
