Review Fix Exclusive: Leaving Eden’s Eric Gynan Talks New EP and More

Review Fix chats with Leaving Eden’s Eric Gynan, who discusses the band’s origin, creative process and goals for the future.

Eric Gynan: Leaving Eden has been in the loop for well over 10 years, Co-Founded by myself and EVE. I found Eve when searching for a female vocalist, then Johnny V. on the bass came referred, and he brought in Ryan (RPM ) Manning on drums! The rest is history!

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Gynan: I utilize some meditative techniques that help me to make a clear connection to the Universe. I use my fingers as antennas to connect, close my eyes and simply listen. All the info is already there, and we all can do this quite easily and seamlessly. So with that said, it’s difficult to take any credit for what we write because it’s clearly coming from somewhere else. So the song plays like a cd in my mind’s eye, my job is to transfer it to reality. That can be the hard part because what your hearing becomes silent when you start relaying it to the recording. It’s like your sleeping, hear a song, then try and wake up and jot it down, hard to explain but then The rest of the band puts their stamp upon the finished product and presto, just like that, we got a song. The Lyrics come in the same way.

Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?

Gynan: Leaving Eden has well over 100 songs, with intentions to record all. So far there are over 40 songs released, so we got lots of work to do. Probably I would say the self titled “Leaving Eden” song because of the lyrics as well as the technical music. “I suddenly realized, the garden was poisoned, the fruit was decaying, as we were Leaving Eden, when the fish washed upon the shore, and the birds fell from the sky, I find myself somewhere, between Heaven and Hell.” It represents the struggle between Good and Evil, a trait we all possess. We gotta remember, the only Species on this planet, the only entity in the Universe, “Humans” are NOT in Harmony. Everything else works perfectly, in Harmony, yet we are so tainted, with free will, We humans seem to have the need, the passion to destroy. Ya know, I was watching some vids on the “Shock and Awe” bombing campaign back in the early 2000s, watching this destruction really affected me in a terrible way. Knowing people were dying, What kind of “Pure Evil” exists here? Who really has control? Our song “Pure Evil” represents just that. Death and destruction, very sad to say the least. My little rant.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2017?

Gynan: We head to Chicago USA with Grammy Award winning Record Producer and friend Johnny K. (Famous for Disturbed, PopEvil, Finger 11, 3 Doors Down) For Our new EP Titled “Out of the Ashes” We are pumped about that! We have plans in the works to be featured in the USA, Coldcock Whiskey’s “Get Coldcocked” tour, Nation Wide with other great Coldcock Whiskey brand ambassadors. We have plans for touring Canada and Europe as well, and will be hitting the road in March USA with Strange Daze, and plans to tour Europe! So, plenty of fun ahead!

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

Gynan: All artists simply want their art to be seen, heard, felt, understood etc. For us, it’s calisthenic, it’s energy provoking, tribal, it’s gathering a crowd together to feel that energy shared by all whom participate. It’s the live show that counts, which you can’t possibly get when watching a video, or looking at photos online. I always say, Leaving Eden is a live experience and until you’re there, you can’t really understand, and with such a limited vocabulary we humans have, it’s impossible to put that into words.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Gynan: Well like I said, Recording, Touring, and Rocknroll man. The best medicine.
