Review Fix chats with Alex Grossi of MAPS TO THE HOLLYWOOD SCARS who discusses the project with former American Idol star James Durbin and their plans for 2017. A member of Quiet Riot as well, Grossi brings a certain level of star power to the table.
Review Fix: How did this project come together?
Alex Grossi: I met James (Durbin$ in 2011 via a mutual acquaintance. I remember being taken back, not only by his obvious vocal prowess but by his knowledge and love for real rock n’ roll. Then, last year I went to a Vegas show he was doing, and we ended up jamming together at the after-party. We then started sending ideas back and forth and before long decided, hell, why not make an album or two?
Review Fix: What are your goals for it?
Grossi: We don’t have any set goals, we just want our collective fans to hear it and hopefully they enjoy hearing it as much as we did making it.
Review Fix: What do you think makes it special?
Grossi: I think the most special thing about it is that we did on our own terms, our own way…..We don’t answer to a label, and we can basically do what we want professionally and musically….. It is a great feeling.
Review Fix: You’ve done a lot in your career, where do you think this project lines up in terms of your legacy in music?
Grossi: Personally, It is a continuation of the musical journey I am on. I feel that each project stands on its own, I have been lucky enough to play with bands from many different “genres” – So I think it encompasses that, but I always want to evolve as well….
Review Fix: What’s next?
Grossi: More Press.
Review Fix: Are you excited to tour with this group?
Grossi: Yes, our first day of acoustic appearances was great, can’t wait to do more.
